Ashley Brady lost her leg in an accident in 2014 and is still adjusting to life using a prosthetic leg. Though the Miamisburg, Ohio native no longer struggles to climb the three flights of stairs it takes to get to her apartment, winter weather proved to be more challenging.
“I struggled a lot across the snow and ice in the parking lot trying to learn how to balance and walk,” Brady said, “I fell multiple times all of which my neighbors have seen.”
In order to prevent further injury, Brady had a simple request for the management: A handicap only parking space. When Ashley was granted her request on March 12, she thought that was the end of her troubles. Unfortunately, her neighbors decided to continue to park in the space, despite it being blatantly identified as reserved for the handicapped Miamisburg woman.
Angered by the blatant lack of consideration, Ashley Brady told ABC 22 that she left a note on the car of the culprit.
“I was stern and confident in what I was saying and just letting her know she doesn’t know what its like to walk around without your own leg.”
The neighbor responded with a note of her own.
“Hey handicap! First, never place your hands on my car again! Second, honey you ain’t the only one with “struggles.” You want pity go to a one leg support group! You messed with the wrong one! I don’t care what your note said shove it, but you touch my car again I will file a report, I am not playing! I let the office know the cry baby one leg touches my property I will cause trouble so go cry your struggles to someone who cares cause I’m walking away with both mine! -(expletive)”
Ashley’s sister decided to share the mean note on Facebook. The post quickly went viral . In addition, thousands of persons with disabilities reached out to Ashley to show support and sympathy for her situation.
The bully told Ashley to “cry to someone who cares” and so she decided to take the woman up on her advice.
“She told me to cry to someone who cares, so I went to the Internet and it turns out a lot of people care.”
Brady also took her grievances to the Miamisburg police in an effort to end the problem. According to ABC 22 , the manager of the apartment complex where Ashley Brady lives hasn’t decided on a response to the cruel behavior of her neighbor.
