$336 Million Powerball Jackpot Won By Single Person in Rhode Island
The $336 Million Powerball jackpot was claimed yesterday by a single person in Rhode Island. The winner has not stepped forward yet to claim his / her prize.
Fox 6 reports that Saturday’s Powerball drawing was set at $311 million but lottery sales during the day caused the price to jump up to a $336 million Powerball jackpot. The lone winner’s winning ticket has a cash value of nearly $200 million.
The lone winner matched all of Saturday’s numbers, 1-10-37-52-57, and Powerball number 11. Madison.com reports that a person in Milwaukee won a million dollars from the Powerball.
Powerball is expecting to have several more big money jackpots. The $336 million Powerball jackpot was the first jackpot above $300 since February last year. Yesterday’s prize also falls just short of the largest jackpot in Powerball history. In 2006, a group of meat packing plant workers won a $360 million jackpot.
And the big jackpots should keep coming since Powerball tickets have doubled in price to $2. Arch Gleason, Kentucky Lottery’s President and CEO, said:
“Players have told us time and time again that they love playing for these big jackpots. We needed to make changes to the game as sales had declined and we hadn’t seen a solid jackpot run like this for awhile. By increasing the game’s price to $2, we made changes that provided better winning odds, a guaranteed $1 million cash second prize, and we hoped jackpots would grow faster. I believe this recent run has proven our point.”
