Aaron Hernandez Trial: Defense ‘Desperate’ For Shayanna Jenkins To Stay Silent About Odin Lloyd’s Murder
The Aaron Hernandez murder trial is in its seventh week, with dozens of witnesses still expected to be called by the state in the coming weeks. The prosecution’s most-anticipated witness Shayanna Jenkins, Hernandez’s fiancée, still has not been called to testify.
The prosecution believes Shayanna Jenkins is the key to winning the case against Hernandez, who is charged with the June 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old man who was dating Shayanna Jenkins’ sister, Shaneah.
Shayanna has yet to turn on Hernandez, suggesting that she may choose jail time over spilling the proverbial beans about the father of her child. Yahoo Sports states that Hernandez’s defense team is “clearly desperate for her to remain silent” and so far, there is no indication — other than rumors that she’s removed her engagement ring — that she won’t stand by her man.

When will Jenkins be called to testify? There is some speculation that she may never be called by the prosecution, but with dozens of other witnesses still scheduled to appear, perhaps the state is saving their star witness until they are ready to wrap up.
During her grand jury testimony, Jenkins stated that she couldn’t remember where she tossed the garbage bag, one of 29 lies that the prosecution states that she told under oath. If she is called as a witness and lies during the trial, it is possible that she will face perjury charges for allegedly telling lies under oath.
According to the Boston Herald, prosecutors stated this week that there is “plenty of evidence” that shows Shayanna was working with Hernandez to hide evidence after the murder, including a pair of Air Jordans sneakers that the former New England Patriots TE allegedly wore the night Odin Lloyd was shot to death. The sneakers reportedly were missing from Hernandez’s North Attleboro, Massachusetts home when authorities went to his house with a search warrant back in 2014.
“When executing the warrant on Nov. 24, 2014, investigators couldn’t find shoes — Air Jordan 11 low tops — that they had previously seen at Hernandez’s North Attleboro home.”
In addition to the sneakers, the alleged murder weapon has never been found. Prosecutors believe that Jenkins may have ditched the gun — assumed to be a.45-caliber Glock — after receiving a cryptic text message from Hernandez about a “box” that was behind a TV in the basement of the couple’s North Attleboro, Massachusetts home.
“Go in back of the screen in movie room when u get home an there is the box avielle likes to play with in the tub jus in case u were lookin for it!!!! Member how u ruined that big tv lmao WAS JUST THINKIN bout that lol wink wink love u TTYL….k.”

Video footage shown during the trial shows Shayanna carrying a garbage bag out of the couple’s home the day after Lloyd was killed. Several weeks ago, witness Carla Barboza, a housekeeper who worked for Hernandez, testified that she saw Jenkins put the black trash bag in the trunk of a car instead of putting it with other garbage in the garage.
