‘Empire’ Scoop: Oprah And Common Officially Headed To ‘Empire’ For Season 2
It’s official — Oprah Winfrey and Common will have roles on the next season of Empire. News was going around last week that Lee Daniels was offering Oprah a role but nothing was confirmed, that said, Daniels has officially let the cat out of the bag about these two huge guest stars.
While Lee Daniels was coy about the guest stars last week, when Access Hollywood spoke with him about Oprah’s possible appearance on Empire, he revealed that she is definitely coming on the show for Season 2. “Yes. Yeah, she’s gonna be on it.”

Additionally, rapper and actor Common is also joining the second season. “Common, you heard that first,” Daniels said to Access Hollywood’s camera. As of right now, we’re not sure what the extent of Oprah Winfrey or Common’s roles will be. Our hunch is that Winfrey will guest star for one episode since she’s plenty busy with her own television series on her network OWN. As for Common, everything is up in the air.

Although much about Oprah’s guest appearance is a mystery, Lee Daniels wasn’t above joking it up with his star Taraji P. Henson during a live Q&A about what Oprah might bring to the Empire set. Daniels joked that Oprah may be involved in a wig-pulling fight with Henson’s Cookie. Perhaps Cookie will finally meet her match? Oprah sure looks like she can throw down if she has to.
When the Inquisitr last reported about Oprah possibly coming to Empire, Winfrey responded to Lee Daniels’ initial request with a joke. “I tell him: ‘Lee, it’s not enough that you’ve taken every viewer possible on Wednesday night. Now you want me to leave my own network?'”
When Daniels was originally asked about Winfrey coming to season 2, the creator said, “I’m wearing her down!”
Looks like he’s getting his way after all.
And what about Oprah’s new project Queen Sugar? Oprah described her project with Selma director Ava DuVernay as a series with many themes. “The story’s themes of reinventing your life, parenting alone, family connections and conflicts, and building new relationships are what I believe will connect our viewers to this show.”
