Elton John Calls For A Dolce and Gabbana Boycott After Designers Call Babies Born From IVF ‘Synthetic’
Elton John is calling for a boycott of the brand Dolce and Gabbana after the designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, reportedly “blasted gay adoptions and IVF,” according to Us Weekly.
The designers reportedly blasted gay adoptions and IVF during an interview with Italy’s Panorama magazine, according to the celebrity news site.
“The only family is the traditional one,” the pair said in the controversial article (via The Telegraph). “No chemical offsprings [sic] and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”
According to E! News, the interview with Dolce and Gabbana was published last week and goes on to say that designer Domenico Dolce calls children who aren’t conceived naturally “synthetic children.”
“You are born to a mother and a father. Or at least that’s how it should be,” Dolce said. “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented wombs, semen chosen from a catalog.”
These comments didn’t sit very well with Elton John, who shares two children with his husband, David Furnish. In fact, the singer took to his Instagram to post a photo along with the following message which states that he will be boycotting Dolce and Gabbana following their comments against gay adoption and IVF.
“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic.’ And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana”
Since Elton John’s post went public Saturday afternoon, #BoycottDolceGabbana has since become a popular hashtag not only on Instagram, but also on Twitter.
It probably wasn’t a good idea to offend the gay community. I don’t see many straight men running around in D&G. #BoycottDolceGabbana

Babies are just the greatest gift in life. Not synthetic. #BoycottDolceGabbana

Gays against gay rights is the most stupid thing that could happen to humanity. Congratulations @dolcegabbana. #BoycottDolceGabbana

Disgusted that D&G called IVF born children synthetic. Their views on gay parents are also insulting. Love is love. #BoycottDolceGabbana

So according to Dolce&Gabbana I’m a synthetic human, ironic for a company who charges $1,500 for a nylon jacket. #BoycottDolceGabbana
