Fans of The Vampire Diaries followed the love affair between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder with zeal, seeing in them a real life love affair to parallel the passion shared between their Vampire Diaries characters, Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore. Even now, after so many months since the Dobrev-Somerhalder break-up and Ian’s engagement announcement, fans still hold out for a reconciliation. At the very least, they hold out hope for the prospect of a strong bond of friendship between Nina and Ian, but even that may be too much to ask.
According to reports on Celeb Dirty Laundry , Nina Dobrev is far less happy with the current status quo as she would like for the public and for Ian himself to believe. While the Vampire Diaries actress seems to be moving on with her own life in both professional and romantic areas, sources close to Ms. Dobrev have been reporting that Nina has become bitter with jealousy.
The source of that jealousy, reports International Business Times , has much less to do with love than people might first assume. Nina is apparently more concerned with the attention Ian Somerhalder is getting in the media, while Dobrev herself is remaining relatively obscure, as far as Hollywood media is concerned.
Nina is right about one thing: Ian Somerhalder is definitely getting the press. Aside from Ian’s engagement to Twilight star Nikki Reed, which brings popular headlines in itself, Somerhalder’s star is also continuing to rise. Ian just recently made more headlines for his latest accomplishment as a first-time director for this week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries and, if he’s nearly as talented in the director’s chair as his other Vampire Diaries co-star Paul Wesley, this may not be the last time fans see Ian Somerhalder in the director’s chair.
Nina Dobrev, meanwhile, has failed to create similar buzz around her own name. While Somerhalder has been preparing for his nuptials, Nina has been dating a series of boyfriends, none of them seriously. While a single twenty-something television star hitting the strip may make a headline or two, it certainly will never create the buzz Somerhalder is receiving due to his engagement. Hollywood loves weddings. Doesn’t everyone?
On the professional front, Ms. Dobrev has been casting her net far and wide in the hopes of catching a starring role in a successful film franchise, possibly hoping to leave Ian Somerhalder and The Vampire Diaries behind. Success with her latest film, The Final Girls , hitting theaters this week, may enable her to do just that.
