Karina Smirnoff Engagement Called Off, Jason Adelman Didn’t Like How She Acted Around Other Men
The third time is not the charm for Dancing with the Stars‘ Karina Smirnoff. The sultry Ukrainian dancer probably holds the record for the most number of failed engagements. It was recently announced that Smirnoff’s third and most recent engagement, this time to actor Jason Adelman, has been called off. The 37-year-old Adelman reportedly called off the engagement because of their clashing family values. Adelman also says that Smirnoff’s interactions with other men (especially male dancers) made him feel uncomfortable.

While Smirnoff has personally remained quiet about the failed engagement, her representative told TMZ that Adelman’s comments are “disrespectful and insulting to the entire dance community” and that it’s “nothing less than an attempted smear campaign from a malicious person.”
Smirnoff’s first engagement was with fellow dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The two started dating in the summer of 2008 and got engaged in the same year. However, they called the engagement off a year later. The following October, Smirnoff started dating baseball player Brad Penny. He proposed one year later, but it also ended poorly when they called it quits on December of 2011.
Adelman and Smirnoff have been dating on and off for less than a year, and the actor proposed to her on January with a beautiful 5-carat engagement ring. Last month, rumors that the engagement was called off started circulating after Smirnoff appeared in book signings for her new book, We’re Just Not That into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches, without her engagement ring. According to reports, Smirnoff returned the ring when the engagement was called off.
In April 2013, Smirnoff said in an interview that despite her many failed attempts at a marriage, she still wants to settle down someday. “I still believe in love,” Smirnoff said. “I still believe in the fairy tale in spite of everything. The whole wedding scenario isn’t necessarily a must for me anymore — though I would love a wedding — but having someone special in my life is all I require. And kids.”
Smirnoff is keeping quiet about the issue, devoting her time to promote her new book instead. We’re Just Not That into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches, centers on her run of bad luck when it comes to dating and relationships. She co-authored the book with her best friend and manager, Lindsay Rielly.
On March 10, Smirnoff took to Instagram to poke fun at her failed engagement and promote her book at the same time. She posted an image saying, “Never use a guy to forget another, use two or three” and captioned it with the title of her book.
