Stephen A. Smith: I See Racism Everywhere [Opinion]
Unlike the racist Sigma Alpha Epsilon video reported on by the Inquisitr, Stephen A. Smith once again inserts racism into a situation where there is no justification for such a ludicrous claim. On ESPN’s First Take, Smith implied racism was the reason for the recent roster moves by Chip Kelly.
From a purely football standpoint, the McCoy for Alonso trade does not make any sense. (Full disclosure – I am a Redskins fan and I will still say this.)
However, ESPN, the same network that Stephen A. Smith made his outrageous assumptions on, reported on Sunday that the Eagles were initially going to sign San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore to a contract. Even though Gore backed out to sign with the Colts, the Eagles have also approached DeMarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys about joining the team.
Does anyone else see an issue with Smith’s idiotic diatribe after looking at that image? Again, from a purely football standpoint, there is no discernible justification for trading McCoy who has been the Eagles’ most potent offensive weapon. However, Stephen A. Smith’s notion that Kelly is doing all of these roster moves out of racial motivation is beyond comprehension. The top two players the Eagles targeted to replace McCoy are both black. Someone who is smarter than I am will have to explain the racial motivation behind replacing a black player with a black player. I just don’t see it.
Then, with the start of NFL free agency, the Eagles traded Nick Foles for Sam Bradford of the Rams according to NFL. This is another one of those “What is Chip Kelly thinking?!” moves? Bradford who is coming off not one – but two – ACL tears for a solid quarterback who led them to consecutive 10-win seasons. Then the trade seems to be tilted in the Rams favor with the conditional 2016 pick.
There has to be some sort of Bill Belichick-esque mad genius plan going on with Chip Kelly as he continues to gut the Eagles. There are a lot of Eagles’ fans who would love to know what it is though. The most likely theory is that he is positioning himself to make a trade with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 2 pick in the hopes of drafting Marcus Mariota – assuming the Buccaneers do not draft him with the first pick. (The Buccaneers seemed to be enamored with Jameis Winston at this point though.)
The other theory, as reported by Business Insider, postulated by Todd Herremans, after he was cut by the Eagles, that Kelly believes his system can score points regardless of the players who are there so Kelly is focusing on defense. The rest of the NFL seems divided over Kelly’s personnel moves in his first off season as a general manager.
One thing Stephen A. Smith got right in his almost nonsensical diatribe is that there are questions to ask Chip Kelly about his roster moves, but “Are you a racist?” is definitely not one of them.
