Michelle Carter, Conrad Roy III: Teen Admits Suicide Is ‘My Fault,’ Fears Prison And Roy Family’s Hatred

According to Michelle Carter, Conrad Roy III would have done it all over again the next day even if she had not told him to get back into the truck that killed him. The teen also allegedly sent text messages claiming that Roy’s death was “my fault,” and also wrote she feared the reaction of the Roy family once her messages were discovered.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, Michelle Carter’s parents are defending their daughter, claiming “she is not the villain the media is portraying her to be.” They claim that when all of the facts are released, their daughter will be found innocent.

On July 13, 2014, Conrad Roy III committed suicide in his pickup truck in the parking lot of a Fairfield, Massachusetts, K-Mart. Police investigators later found that Carter and Roy had exchanged thousands of text messages. At one point, Roy apparently tried to back out of the suicide plan, but Carter allegedly encouraged him to get back in the truck in order to allow the carbon monoxide poisoning to do its deadly work.

Carter also referred to herself as Conrad Roy’s girlfriend, but 19-year-old Louie Pina claims he was one of Roy’s best friends and had never heard of Carter until she organized a “Homers for Conrad” softball fundraiser in the name of suicide prevention. The Roy family also says they were not aware that Conrad had a girlfriend. Pina believes that if it were not for Michelle Carter, Conrad Roy III would “still be here” if the suicidal teen had talked to anyone else about his issues.

“I didn’t even know who she was,” Pina says, according to People. “She was just like a random face. She was talking to me and my friends like there was nothing wrong. I’ve been thinking about that nonstop. I don’t know how someone, after knowing what they did, could play it off like they did nothing wrong. And how someone can organize an event in his name, claiming to have all this love for him, knowing they were a big part of why he did what he did.”

Police claim Carter began texting and emailing other people about Conrad being missing, even when she knew that wasn’t true. She allegedly asked friends questions like, “Is there any way a portable generator can kill you somehow?” Even as she texted friends that she was “losing all hope that he’s even still alive,” she also asked Conrad, “Let me know when you’re gonna do it.”

Investigators believe Carter was already starting to provide an explanation for why Roy was dead even as she was still in communication with him. A day before Roy’s actual suicide, she wrote about his death being her fault to a friend named Samantha Boardman.

“His death was my fault … he got out of the car, and I told him to get back in … because I knew he would do it all over again the next day.”

After Roy’s body was discovered in his pickup, Carter texted the same friend on July 21, saying that she was afraid her text message logs would come out.

“[Conrad Roy’s mother] said they have to go [through] his phone and see if anyone encouraged him to do it on texts and stuff… Sam, [if] they read my messages with him I’m done… His family will hate me and I could go to jail.”

Based upon the death of Conrad Roy, Michelle Carter has been indicted and arraigned on charges of involuntary manslaughter. According to CBS, the 17-year-old teen was charged as a youthful offender, which means she could face charges as an adult if convicted in court. Carter is currently free on a $2,500 bail and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on April 17, 2015.
