Neil Patrick Harris Probably Won’t Host Oscars Again
Neil Patrick Harris got a reality check after he hosted the Oscars this year. So much so that he is entirely nixing the idea that he will host again.
According to the Huffington Post, Neil Patrick Harris can’t take another Oscars ceremony.
“I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it. It’s a beast. It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don’t know that it’s a delightful balance to do every year or even again.”
Critics were mixed about Neil Patrick Harris’ hosting gig, and while the How I Met Your Mother star didn’t exactly hem and haw over reviews, he did take note of the critiques that many gave him. Elaborating on how he took in the reviews, the star found it interesting how some jokes landed and others simply didn’t.
“It’s so difficult for one who’s simply watching the show to realize just how much time and concession and compromise and explanation has gone into almost every single thing. Every joke. Wording of joke. Placement of joke. Canceling of joke. Embellishment for just one line.”
Despite all of that, Harris said he was happy that at least some jokes landed when he hosted, and that the audience enjoyed themselves.
“I was told that as the room fills with, you know, it’s four-fifths of the room didn’t win, and you get further into the award-giving they get less enthusiastic and less excited. And I felt while we were doing it that people were enjoying themselves more and more, so for that I’m happy.”
Despite mixed reviews, after the ceremony, Penn Schoen Berland took a poll about who they preferred among the hosts throughout the last five years. Out of Ellen DeGeneres, Seth MacFarlane, James Franco and Anne Hathaway, and Neil Patrick Harris, 30 percent of the fans wanted DeGeneres, but 32 percent gave the Neil an A for his hosting job.
Prior to hosting the Oscars, he hosted the Tony awards four times and the Emmy awards twice. He was the first out star to host the Academy Awards.

@HuffingtonPost The ratings were so low he will not be asked to host again. Bring Billy Crystal out of retirement.
