WWE News: Nikki Bella Reveals She And Brie Bella Were Behind 30-Second WWE Diva Match On WWE RAW
WWE Divas have been the butt of many jokes the last number of years. It has been deserved in some ways, as WWE has given us horrible Diva matches for some time now on the main roster. WWE used to hire the model type who couldn’t work well, and long gone were the days of Trish Stratus and Lita who could perform well. Instead they were replaced upon their departure with women who weren’t even a fraction of what those two were.
This led to WWE giving less match time to the Divas on the main roster. While WWE still did give some longer matches on PPVs, even that became a rarity. However, now that WWE has a lot of talented female talent on their roster for both the main roster and NXT, many want to see the Divas put on quality matches that they know the girls can give us.
Fans have become spoiled watching WWE NXT and seeing matches there with women that were as good as any male match on the card even on the main roster. Even as recent as last night on NXT, Charlotte and Sasha Banks main evented the show and gave us a wonderful match that was exciting from start to finish. Women can wrestle in WWE now, so the 30-second WWE RAW match last week was something that sent WWE fans into an uproar.
It caused a hashtag with the line “Give Divas A Chance.” #GiveDivasAChance was a trending topic for two entire days on Twitter last week, which was so overwhelming that it got Vince McMahon himself to comment on it.
At the end of the day though, who came up with the 30-second RAW match that sent the internet into an uproar, and why did they do it? It turns out that WWE Diva’s Champion Nikki Bella and her sister Brie are the ones who were mostly behind the move. Nikki told Mark Madden on 105.9 Pittsburgh….
“What’s funny about that is we were given about three minutes. Three to four minutes. And we – us four girls who were in the match – we put our heads together and said look: we can either give them a two minute match, or we can give them nothing and get Brie and I so much heat and tell a great story…We’re not gonna give people three minutes of BS, and it ended up being a big chance. It ended up turning into #GiveDivasAChance trending worldwide for two days. I mean, we could’ve gone out there, done a few moves and called it a day, but we were like, ‘How do we tell a great story?’ and at the end of the day, that’s what we did. Brie and I got good heat at the end of it, we got trended for two days straight, and it was like, ‘Whoa. We’re storytelling now.’ And that’s what puts the Divas on the next level. Instead of just going out there and doing moves, we storytell. ‘Cause that’s what the boys do, and that’s what we need to do.”
Whether we agree with the move made by the WWE Divas on that night, it did get people talking and helped the Diva Division out a good bit. So while we originally thought that WWE writers or creative came up with the idea, it was actually the girls involved in the match that caused it. Did any of them think it would blow up like it did? Probably not.
Most would say that this would never have happened without NXT showing that the girls can wrestle. Paige has proven countless times that she can go, and Nikki and Brie have both improved as well. That said, most expect that the ladies will be featured more often and given more than just 3 to 4 minutes to wrestle in the future. However, they have to earn that.
Right now, the fans are finally behind them and the girls proved this week on WWE RAW that they have ability. So if they continue this, only good things can happen for the Diva Division. WWE has a lot of talented women, so it will be nice to see them compete in matches that aren’t considered pee breaks.
