Giuliana Rancic Joke Edited: Did Giuliana’s Zendaya Comments Get Edited By ‘Fashion Police’?
Giuliana Rancic’s joke was edited, according to an E! News insider.
The Fashion Police star has been under fire after making offensive comments about Zendaya Coleman’s hair after the Oscars, and new information suggests that all of what Rancic said didn’t actually make it on the air. There is also a report that the comments Rancic made were scripted, and that a writer on the Fashion Police staff was actually the one responsible for the material.
First, the claims that Rancic said more than just what people heard are sorted out weeks later. According to People Magazine, Rancic actually supplemented her comments, and didn’t just crack a backhanded joke.
“[Zendaya’s hair looks] really heavy – it overwhelms her, and it’s just too boho. Zendaya is more high-fashion. The hair to me on her is making her a little more boho. Like I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed,” is reported what Rancic said. However, people only heard the last sentence.
Secondly, Giuliana Rancic’s joke may have been edited in the literal sense. According to the Electronic Urban Web, one of the Fashion Police actually wrote the patchouli oil/weed comment, and it was revealed that Rancic was supposed to add something about the Grateful Dead, but she was cut off by Kathy Griffin. The report was sure to mention that a “black senior producer” looked over the script — and he approved it.
There is plenty of debate about whether or not this makes things “better” or “more acceptable” in any way, but Rancic has apologized, and she seems more than ready to move on.
Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!

Zendaya Coleman has accepted Rancic’s apology, and while both women seem like they’ve moved on, the rest of the world is still trying to understand what might have happened — and why Giuliana thought that her comments were okay to make — “joke” or not.
The incident caused quite a fallout at Fashion Police. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Kelly Osbourne is no longer on the show, and she’s reportedly still furious over the whole thing. There has been some chatter of a revamp, and many are wondering if Rancic will get fired or leave the show on her own following her Zendaya comments. Do you think Rancic’s career on Fashion Police is over?
