For those of you who have been waiting with bated breath in anticipation for James Cameron’s recreation of Titanic, you’ll finally be getting what you want, as the 3D film bursts into screenings on Valentine’s Day. Paramount and 20th Century Fox have decided to let fans see the film weeks in advance. The advanced screenings held in cities around the world, sold out within hours, causing multiple computer servers to crash when first offered on Tuesday. The screenings will be presented in realD 3D.
Cameron’s Titanic shattered box office records with its 1997 release when it made 1.9 billion worldwide and for more than a decade it was the highest grossing film of all-time until he broke his own record with Avatar.
Cameron has spent years perfecting the 3D version of Titanic, creating an innovative technology in StereoD to present it in. Joining him in the project was more than 300 production artists . The director has even gone on to defend this re-release at lengths stating, “I think it’s perfectly valid . . . It just felt right in the centenary of the sinking of Titanic to bring this back out for fans who either are fans of the movie but have never had the widescreen experience or are fans of the movie who remember it from back then and want to re-experience that.”
The Titanic 3D film will be launched into theaters worldwide on April 6th.
