Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has released a statement through publicist Jack Ketsoyan, following the sudden death of his younger sister Leslie , stating he will not cancel the Backstreet Boys tour and instead will honor his sister’s memory.
“Performing is cathartic to me and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform.”
The Carter family appreciates the outpouring of support from fans but asks that their privacy be respected during their time of grief, Ketsoyan added.
Leslie Carter, 25, died in upstate New York early afternoon on Tuesday. Following the news the family released a public statement on Tuesday night to Access Hollywood. “Our family is grieving right now and it’s a private matter. We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter. We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time.”
Leslie Carter was the younger sister of Nick and the older sister of brother and sometimes rapper, Aaron Carter. In 2006 she was featured in the reality show “House of Carters” on E! which featured Nick Carter, Bobbie Jean, Leslie and twins Angel and Aaron as they tried to work together as a family despite their estranged relationships with their parents.
In 2008 Leslie wed Mike Aston and gave birth to daughter Alyssa Jane on April 1, 2011.
Nick will resume performing on Thursday at Irving Plaza in New York.
