This Disturbing ‘Salem’ Lullaby Features Newcomers Lucy Lawless And Stuart Townsend [Video]
To say that Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) singing a lullaby in that soft, tender voice, while the eyes are treated to the horrific carnage of Salem‘s coming Witch War is surreal would be the grossest of understatements. Many will not sleep after viewing this teaser for Season 2 of the WGN hit, Salem.
In addition to nightmare-inducing visions, the teaser released on Monday also gives fans their first glimpse of Salem‘s new cast members, Lucy Lawless and Stuart Townsend, reports Variety. Lawless’ character describes herself as the last of the true witches, so it can already be assumed that she means trouble for the most prodigious of Salem‘s witches, Mary Sibley.
Ms. Lawless, most notably known for her role as Xena: Warrior Princess, will play a German witch, Countess Marburg, a character descended from a long and ancient line of witches, so it can be presumed she will bring even more devilry to the people of Salem.
Townsend, known for his roles as Lestat in Queen of the Damned and Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, will play an English doctor, Samuel Wainwright. Entertainment Weekly reports that Townsend’s role as Dr. Wainwright will be much more than to merely administering to the sick. He will arrive in Salem to uncover the township’s secrets, while also keeping a sharp guard on his own.
It seems few will be spared in the second season of Salem, if this trailer is any indication. Amidst a plethora of rotting corpses, a monster, and flames spelling out the word war, viewers also catch glimpses of returning favorites John Alden and Anne Hale, each in their own precarious situation.
“Every man, woman, and child will be dead,” promises Mary Sibley.
Other new additions to Salem include Joe Doyle as Baron Sebastian Marburg, the charismatic son of Lawless’ Countess. Speaking of sons, remember that baby born to Mary Sibley in Salem‘s pilot episode? Well, the coven has kept him alive, nurturing him and teaching him who-knows-what through the years. Now he is ready to return to Salem. Oliver Bell will play that long-lost son of Mary Sibley, according to Coming Soon.
Salem will return with Season 2 on Sunday, April 5, at 10:00pm ET/PT.
Salem isn’t the only show to make room for Lucy Lawless. She has reportedly been cast in a recurring role on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well.
