‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Denies Fake Engagement, Claims She And Matthew Baier Are Really Engaged
Teen Mom Amber Portwood didn’t fake her engagement for MTV. Although reports have claimed Portwood and Matthew Baier’s relationship has been exaggerated for ratings, she has since confirmed that she is, in fact, engaged.
In an interview with MTV News on March 2, the Teen Mom star confirmed she and Baier are planning to wed.
“We are very happy. I’ve never felt this way about somebody else in my life.”
On previous seasons of Teen Mom, Portwood was seen in an on-again, off-again relationship with Gary Shirley, the father of her daughter, Leah Shirley, and the pair often fought. In one scene, the Teen Mom stars engaged in a physical altercation, which led to charges being brought against Portwood.
Eventually, Portwood, who was ultimately placed on probation, which she voluntarily violated, was sentenced to spend five years behind bars, and in June 2012, she began her sentence.
After receiving an early release, the Teen Mom was released in November 2013. A short time later, she met and fell in love with Baier, and months after that, the couple began filming Teen Mom OG.
“I don’t stage things for [the cameras]. I live my life. MTV follows me — I don’t follow them. Everything that is seen on ‘Teen Mom OG’ is our lives, and this is the way it is. We’ve never tried to do anything to please others. It’s our lives to help others — it’s not just for TV.”
Regarding her relationship with Baier, which has been accused of being “on and off,” the Teen Mom insisted things are stable.
“I think people are trying to compare this relationship with mine and Gary’s in the past, and it doesn’t even compare. People just need to accept that I’m happy, and I have a good life with my fiancé now.”
The Teen Mom’s ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley, has moved on from their relationship, as well. Currently, he is dating a woman named Kristina Anderson, and she is due to give birth to their first child any day now.
As the Inquisitr reported earlier, Portwood was said to have staged an engagement for Teen Mom cameras. In an interview with Radar Online, a source claimed the Teen Mom star was seen getting engaged on the show, but wasn’t really engaged.
“The proposal was all for show. He doesn’t have that kind of money.”
Teen Mom OG premieres on March 23 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
