This morning Reba McEntire fell 100 feet to her death while filming a movie in Austria. Well, at least that’s the rumor that was floating around Twitter. Reba’s label released a statement this afternoon saying that the country singer didn’t fall, didn’t die, and was not filming anything in Austria at the time of the rumor.
So yeah, Reba McEntire is not dead.
GACTV reports that the story was originally reported by Global Associated News. It then found its way onto Twitter and Facebook where Reba fans went crazy over the rumor.
McEntire’s label, The Valory Music Company, said:
“Contrary to ludicrous reports, Reba has not passed away, nor was she even in Austria at the time of her alleged death. Global Associated News, who devised this latest celebrity hoax, is an entertainment site that generates ‘totally fake articles based on zero truth.’ Reba is alive and well, but would like to thank her loyal fans for their concern.”
Reba also chimed in. The singer posted to her WhoSay account:
“There is a rumor going around that I died after falling off a mountain in Austria yesterday while shooting a movie. While I would love to be shooting a movie in Austria, I definitely did not fall off a mountain! Nor am I dead! I am alive and kicking!!! Most of you know this already because I’ve been giving you daily accounts of Shelby’s race. Oh well. Have a great day.”
Of course, Reba isn’t the first celebrity to be falsely sentenced to death by a Twitter rumor. Jon Bon Jovi “died” at the end of last year and Cher reportedly died earlier this week.
