William Shatner Funeral: Actor Talks Leonard Nimoy On Twitter, But Didn’t Attend His Funeral
William Shatner did not attend the funeral for actor Leonard Nimoy because he had a charity event with the American Red Cross to attend on the same day. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shatner took some time to share his memories of Nimoy on Twitter instead, and also answered some fan questions about his Star Trek co-star and dear friend.
Leonard and I seemed to be bound by fate to be friends. We were born 4 days apart. #LeonardNimoy

He was tall, lanky and sometimes a bit too serious. #LeonardNimoy

We worked together previous to Star Trek, first impressions: nice guy, a real professional, took the job/role seriously. #LeonardNimoy — William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) March 1, 2015
Although William Shatner wasn’t at Nimoy’s funeral, many thought it was great that he wanted to participate in a Q&A on Twitter. Obviously, Leonard Nimoy was a huge name in the industry, but to know him on a personal level is something that Shatner seems to cherish more than anything else.
“@nickwilli131: @WilliamShatner what was your favorite memory of Mr. Nimoy? #LeonardNimoy” Every moment I spent with him.

“@Craabpot: @WilliamShatner What was he like when off the set? #LeonardNimoy” Intelligent, insightful, just a precious gem of a man.

The William Shatner funeral backlash was intense. Although the actor said that his two daughters would attend the services in his place, many people were completely astounded to hear that Shatner refused to change his plans in order to pay his respects to Nimoy.
Interestingly enough, Shatner, 83, was spotted arriving in Los Angeles on Sunday, the day of Nimoy’s funeral. However, when he was approached at the airport by paparazzi, the actor refused to comment. According to The Wrap, Shatner was asked if the charity event went well, to which he replied with a simple “yes.” However, questions about Nimoy were pretty much ignored.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there has been quite the uproar following Shatner’s decision to skip Nimoy’s funeral. While some people can understand that he really had somewhere else to be, others think that it was a huge dig, and he should have done whatever he could to make sure that he was there.
Do you think William Shatner made the wrong decision? Should he have skipped out on the charity event given the circumstances?
