‘The Big Bang Theory’ Fans Call For Spock Tribute Episode
Fans of The Big Bang Theory have already called out for a tribute episode to Leonard Nimoy. The 83-year-old actor, who passed away on Friday, was best known for his role of Spock in Star Trek. He has often been mentioned on the comedy program, and even appeared in a cameo role, similar to many other cast members of various Star Trek shows.
The Daily Mirror notes how Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, idolizes Spock. It would be extremely devastating for the character to lose his hero, and The Big Bang Theory needs to at least mention it. Hundreds of fans took to Twitter to say that they were waiting for the tribute episode. It may take some time, though, since many of the episodes for season eight have already been written and recorded.

I wonder if Big Bang Theory will do an episode about Spock given that Sheldon is a huge fan

Nimoy had been mentioned during a number of episodes of The Big Bang Theory from the very beginning. During one episode, Penny gave Sheldon a napkin signed by the actor after she saw him in her workplace, The Cheesecake Factory. She apologized for the napkin having food on it, as Nimoy had wiped his mouth with it first. Usually concerned about dirt, Sheldon was excited about having some of his hero’s DNA.
Most recently, the comedy program did do a tribute episode for a deceased cast member. Carol Ann Susi, who voiced Mrs. Wolowitz, died at the end of last year. The writers decided the best way to handle the loss was to give fans closure, too. Last week, Howard received a phone call to say that his mother had died while in Florida, offering the chance for all the cast to remember their favorite Mrs. Wolowitz moments.
Movie Pilot states that Scott Molaro, executive producer of the show, did consider other options before writing out Mrs. Wolowitz. There was the idea of moving the character out of state, but it would not have been the tribute the cast, crew and fans wanted. It was a difficult episode for the writers, as they usually write comedy. That could be the same problem they have for Nimoy if they do a big tribute episode. However, many fans may just be happy for some mention of Spock’s death and how it will change things for Sheldon going forward.
Leonard Nimoy’s death hit many people hard. While he had been in hospital with chest pains shortly before, many hoped that he would pull through like other times. However, as soon as the news of his death was shared, The Big Bang Theory fans called for a Spock tribute episode to memorialize him.
