Lady Gaga, Vince Vaughn And Others Take Part In Polar Plunge In Lake Michigan For Special Olympics [Video]
Vince Vaughn, Lady Gaga, Taylor Kinney and others took an icy plunge into Lake Michigan on Sunday morning as part of the annual Chicago Polar Plunge. The event entails brave souls descending into freezing waters to help raise funds for the Chicago Special Olympics.
Vaughn, who wore a Chicago Blackhawks jersey, was a part of the first wave of volunteers to take a dip into the frigid lake. The second wave consisted of Lady Gaga and the cast of “Chicago Fire,” which also happens to include her fiancé, Taylor Kinney.
Last year, the plunge raised more than $1 million for Special Olympics Chicago, which is an organization that continuously provides activities and events to almost 5,000 athletes with special needs.
A Chicago native, Vaughn said the decision to participate in his hometown’s annual event was due to the courage and dedication of the athletes in the Special Olympics. This year saw more than 4,500 people taking part in icy plunge, which is a major contrast from when the event just started with its 40 plungers and a total of $27,000 raised.
