Jason Momoa Reveals Aquaman’s Role in ‘Batman V Superman’
Jason Momoa, the new face of Aquaman, revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Zack Snyder has a vision to revamp the underwater superhero who’s largely been mocked over the years. Jason says he was also shocked when Snyder called to let him know he was going to release the photo of Momoa in full Aquaman gear – his casting was a secret he had to keep for a long time, and he had expected to keep it longer. According to Cinemablend, Snyder decided to release the photo a year early.
Not many people take Aquaman seriously, and the character has remained firmly on the sidelines for some time now. There surely are fans out there who might argue these points, but it’s safe to say the tweeted image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman turned quite a few heads and has already started changing opinions about the superhero.
In his interview about the second season of The Red Road returning on the Sundance Channel, Jason was asked about his role as Aquaman in the upcoming films Batman V Superman, Justice League: Part One, and standalone Aquaman. Momoa was very careful not to give away anything specific as he said that’s for Snyder to do.
“The whole mythology of Aquaman is pretty amazing. There’s so many things to tell, and there’s a whole backstory that’s just amazing. There’s a lot of surprises coming. I think, yeah, he’s been cast aside. But, um [laughs] times are going to change now, buddy.
What’s great about this is Zack, man. We don’t want to just reinvent it, but he’s got a whole idea of what Aquaman should be and I’m really honored to be playing it. I’m excited for the world to see it.”
Momoa cautions fans they won’t see much of Aquaman in Batman V Superman. However, Jason is excited to see the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel together on the big screen.
“Well it’s Batman and Superman, it’s not my movie. It’s the first time in history to have them both on the screen together, and I’m just excited to see those two up there.”
Momoa has an undeniable enthusiasm and zest for his upcoming stint as Aquaman. Jason’s own tattoos were included in the design of Aquaman’s armor. Momoa also notes his kids haven’t been able to see much of his work at this point but will be able to see him in the DC movies. Jason is looking forward to sharing his enthusiasm with them.
“Life’s a trip, man. A Hawaiian raised in Iowa and the next thing you know, I’m Aquaman. It’s the last d**n thing I thought I’d be doing.”
While Jason won’t have a big role in Batman V Superman, what do you think Snyder’s vision of Jason Momoa as Aquaman will entail? Are you looking forward to more news coming of Jason Momoa as Aquaman?
