George Takei, Mr. Sulu, Honors Leonard Nimoy In Moving Facebook Post
George Takei is in mourning along with millions of other Star Trek fans across the globe.
When news of Leonard Nimoy’s passing began circulating around the Internet Friday morning, beyond expressing grief at the death of Mr. Spock — this time for good — most people wanted to know what his two most social networking-active co-stars would have to say about it.
Around lunchtime, William Shatner posted his remembrances to Twitter, noting that Nimoy was loved “like a brother.”

George Takei needed more words and posted his first Facebook message at around 1:34 p.m. EST. “Today, the world lost a great man, and I lost a great friend,” he said. “We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to ‘Live Long And Prosper,’ and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways.” The former Mr. Sulu followed this up about an hour later linking to a video of some of Spock’s greatest and most memorable moments.
“Leonard Nimoy truly did live long and prosper. To celebrate his life and work, this video shares some of his best moments as the character we all took into our hearts, Mr. Spock. Add your own favorite moments below.”
Takei’s followers certainly didn’t disappoint with their well-wishes to the family and expressions of grief. As of 3:37 p.m., there were more than 5,700 comments, 30,000 shares, and close to 150,000 likes. Celebrities also chimed in with some remembrances of their own.
