Kaitlyn Bristowe Was ‘Blindsided’ When ‘Bachelor’ Chris Soules Chose Becca And Whitney
Fans of the Bachelor franchise take it all in as entertainment. Few give a second thought as to whether the show’s editing gives an inaccurate picture of how participants relate to one another and whether the bachelor of the moment, Chris Soules, is up front with his personal feelings. While some Bachelor contestants from this season — the controversial widow Kelsey Poe among them — have cried foul at the show’s editing, at least one woman after Soules’ heart is admitting that what viewers saw on-camera was real.
Kaitlyn Bristowe was sent home on Monday’s episode after she, Becca Tilley, and Whitney Bischoff all engaged in overnight dates with Soules. Traditionally, this is the most painful cut of the season. Bristowe was interviewed when Soules took Tilley aside for a private conversation. Guessing Tilley was about to be sent home, saving her the embarrassment of the rose ceremony, Bristowe appeared to be gushing with happiness. When Tilley returned, Bristowe looked shocked, and appeared devastated when Soules escorted her to a waiting limo.
Now, Bristowe is revealing to Us that those dramatics were not the result of editing in production. She was not prepared to go home, and furthermore, was none too pleased with Soules’ determination to proceed with the handing out of roses.
“That was shocking. I was just so unaware and blind going into [it] that that was even an option. That was probably the most confident I felt going into a rose ceremony. When he brought Becca back, my first instinct was ‘Oh, I guess Whitney is going home.’ That’s how confident I was.
That’s not a way you want to be broken up with. So it was tough. It was a tough pill to swallow for me — to be standing there and be so blindsided and not get that respect or courtesy to be asked to step aside and have a legit conversation before he [sent me home].”
Although the elimination was obviously a difficult one for Bristowe, her Bachelor tweets reveal she has some happy memories of her time on the show. She sent out a deleted scene of the outfit her mother sewed for her night in the fantasy suite, and a screen shot of Soules’ blog that described his feelings of affection for her family.
While it wasn’t meant to be for Kaitlyn and Chris, at least not in Bachelor-world, she is said to be in the running for the next Bachelorette slot. It’s an idea that has found at least one fan in Leanne Aguilera, who, writing for ET Online, listed several reasons Kaitlyn would be perfect for the role. Among those factors were Bristowe’s sense of humor and “contagious smile.”
The Bachelor special “The Women Tell All” airs Monday, March 2, on ABC.
