There’s just over a month to go before the fifth season of Game of Thrones kicks off, and the hype machine for the next season of Thrones has kicked into overdrive. Friday saw the revelation of not one, not two, but three new promotional snippets for Game of Thrones Season 5, and one of them shows a fan-favorite character apparently in dire straits with a dragon.
The official promo poster for Game of Thrones Season 5 has hit the internet, showcasing the series’ April 12 premiere date and giving fans a look at just where the winds of fate will be taking Tyrion Lannister this season. The latest look at Tyrion shows him at the prow of a ship, his hands presumably bound in front of him, with one of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons looming off in the fog.
Inquisitr -reading Game of Thrones fans have already seen leaked set pictures proving that Tyrion will show up in the court of Daenerys at some point in the course of Season 5. Those same pictures hint at the possibility that Tyrion will be terrifyingly close to one of Daenerys’ dragons at some point, as well. Can he possibly survive what’s bound to be a life-threatening encounter with one of the most dangerous creatures in the Game of Thrones world?
Here’s the thing: No one knows.
The fact that the next season of Game of Thrones will see Tyrion in the court of Daenerys, as evidenced by the leaked set pictures and the Season 5 poster, means that this season of Thrones is going to outpace what George RR Martin has already put on the page in the Song of Ice and Fire series. The Game of Thrones television show is officially stepping into uncharted territory this season, so even fans of the books will have no idea what’s coming next in some cases.
The other new Game of Thrones snippets to hit the internet recently are clips from the forthcoming season. HBO has been releasing short glimpses of Season 5 through Twitter, and the latest looks give us a vision of what’s going on this season with Brienne of Tarth and Jon Snow.
Snow appears to be attempting to convince Mance Rayder to give up his pride for the good of his people. It’s a safe bet that Jon is trying to get Mance to bend the knee and swear fealty to Stannis Baratheon. Ever the Wildling, Mance isn’t likely to want to acknowledge any king at all, especially one as uninspiring as Stannis. The future of his people may well depend on him bending the knee, though.
Brienne and Podrick will be dealing with the aftermath of having lost track of young Arya Stark in the last episode of Season 4. Brienne doesn’t look to be taking it too well, as losing Arya goes hand in hand with her apparently losing faith in all of the other rulers in the Game of Thrones world. Poor Podrick may well have to ride shotgun alongside a supremely mopey Brienne for much of the season.
The fifth season promises to be a wild ride for not just Tyrion, Brienne, and Jon Snow, but for everyone in the Game of Thrones universe. The show will see new characters brought to life, and fans are sure to see new favorites coming to the fore, even as old ones get stabbed, crushed, and fed to dragons. That last one might be a spoiler. It might not. Who knows?
