‘Mortal Kombat X’ Devs Announce Upcoming Live Stream
The release of NetherRealm Studios Mortal Kombat X is still well over a month away, but the developers have planned an upcoming live stream that fans can watch on Twitch on Thursday, February 26 at 4 p.m. Eastern or 1 p.m. Pacific.
It hasn’t been said yet what the developers will be talking about, but eager gamers who are fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise are hoping to see a little bit of everything, from the announcement of more characters to information about future downloadable content, and maybe a sneak peek at the game that they haven’t seen before. Fans have taken to Twitter about the announcement with curiosities piqued.
Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat and the creative director at NetherRealm Studios, answered a fans query earlier this week on Twitter, hinting that they may be talking about the brutalities that may be present in the upcoming game.
“@terroishmitche1: @noobde when R we going to see a gameplay with someone doing a brutality in it EB: You don’t wanna miss the next stream!
— Ed Boon (@noobde) February 21, 2015
Mortal Kombat veteran players may remember the Age of the Brutalities from former games, first introduced into the series in 1996 in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and all versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. They weren’t known for being incredibly popular, either. An 11-button combination that had to be very rapidly performed usually resulted in something lackluster: a character would either vanish in flames or blood and bones would scatter the screen with the winner standing among them. The lack of a really great finish deterred many players from actually completing the Brutality at the end.
There were also several versions of the Mortal Kombat trademark: friendship, which resulted in the two fighters agreeing to become friends at the end of the match and instead of one killing the other, they would blow bubbles or present a cake to the other player, babaility, the ability for the winning player to turn his or her opponent into a baby, and animality, where the winning player would turn into a glowing animal and finish off their enemy.
The live stream may also feature the introduction to another character to the lineup, and with several rumors about characters that may appear, it seems likely that the developers will make some kind of announcement. So far, the current roster of Mortal Kombat X characters include Scorpion, Cassie Cage, Sub-Zero, D’Vorah, Raiden, Kitana, Kotal Kahn, Ferra & Torr, Reptile, Kano, Goro, Quan Chi and Ermac.
Mortal Kombat X is set for release on April 10 and will feature a Collectors Edition of the game.
