Childish Gambino Retired: Donald Glover Believes Period Of Rapper ‘Should Come To A Close’

Donald Glover has teased he has retired Childish Gambino.

The Community actor and comedian’s Grammy-nominated rap persona has released two albums over the last few years, and has also built up a rather fervent fan base.

However, during his appearance on The Today Show, Glover admitted that his music career might now be over.

“I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close. I like endings.”

However, Glover also made it perfectly clear that he doesn’t want to completely quit the music industry, and that he wants to continue working in the medium.

“I always want to do music, I love music…” he added. “And I want to produce.”

He then explained that he simply believes his time working under the moniker Childish Gambino should come to an end. He wants his career to have definitive periods.

Glover proved to the world that his talents didn’t just lay in his writing, acting, and performing with the release of his first rap album, Camp, in November 2011. He then followed this up in December 2013 with his second studio album, Because The Internet. Both of these were preceded with several self-released albums and mixtapes. In 2014, he was even nominated for two Grammy Awards in the Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance categories.

Glover, who was on The Today Show to promote his upcoming turn in The Lazarus Effect, also added to the rumors that he is interested in playing Spider-Man in Marvel and Sony’s upcoming reboot of the character.

There have been rumors that the studios might decide to replace Peter Parker with Miles Morales for the new Spider-Man tales. Because of this, there has been speculation that Glover might be in line to portray the character, something that the actor also added to.

“I can’t say I’m the next Spider-Man,” Glover admitted. But when he was asked if he wasn’t the next Spider-Man he then added, “I can’t say that either. I mean, it’s not out yet.”

Glover continued, “There’s been talkings about it. I mean, I’d be honored to play it. It’s really not up to me.” If Glover is cast, he believes that he would excel in the role, as he added, “I personally think I would be amazing, like The Amazing Spider-Man.”

After The Lazarus Effect, Donald Glover will next be seen in Magic Mike XXL and The Martian.
