WWE News: WWE Diva AJ Lee Calls Out Stephanie McMahon, Is It Storyline Or Real Life Drama Playing Out?

While most of what we see play out on social media these days involving WWE Superstars and Divas is typically based on storyline, it is uncertain how far some might go on their own. This was very apparent recently with WWE Diva AJ Lee as she basically called out WWE Executive Stephanie McMahon via Twitter.

The former three time WWE Diva’s Champion responded to this tweet by Stephanie McMahon ….

“Thank You @ PattyArquette for having the courage to fight for #WomensRights on such a grand platform. #UseYourVoice”

Of course Stephanie was talking about Patricia Arquette’s Oscar Speech where, as she won the award for Best Supporting Actress, she would go on to talk of women’s rights. She spoke of how women should be equal to men in pay and how they should make decisions about themselves, which was met with cheers by the crowd. Of course, most of the women in that room were millionaires, but women watching at home were inspired.

Stephanie, yet another millionaire, was so much so that she decided to tweet this out. Of course, that was open season for comments about the Diva Division from it’s biggest female star. AJ Lee responded, saying…

“@ StephMcMahon Your female wrestlers have record selling merchandise & have starred in the highest rated segment of the show several times.”

“@ StephMcMahon And yet they receive a fraction of the wages & screen time of the majority of the male roster. #UseYourVoice”

Stephanie certainly saw the tweets from the popular Diva and responded by telling her thank you for speaking her mind basically. She responded in quite a business-like fashion, which was seen as typical from a WWE executive.

AJ has a major point as well. On WWE RAW this past week, WWE gave us three minutes of entrance/match material for the divas which was basically made to put over The Bella Twins, more over Nikki the current WWE Diva’s Champion. Three minutes though? Where was Eric Bischoff with the warning?!?

This was met with massive criticism, so much so that the hashtag #GiveDivasAChance went to a top trend for the night on Twitter. It remains in the top ten on Twitter even today. It got to be such a big deal that “the boss” Vince McMahon responded to it personally. He said on Twitter…

“We hear you. Keep watching. # GiveDivasAChance

Most do not know how to take this. The very man who has ignored the internet for most of his life is now going to listen for the first time? This is the same man who still gave us a match in Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar that few want to see. This is also the same man who has yet to give Daniel Bryan a proper match for WrestleMania . This is the same man who has completely killed many of the NXT stars that have come up and consistently panned that product. This man is going to make his Diva’s Division better when the call to make this so has been present for nearly ten years? This man will do that?

You can see how the doubts are completely justified.

Many believe that AJ personally responded to Stephanie to help set up a storyline with “the boss lady” for WrestleMania . While this match would most likely be of interest and long enough to give a crap about, there is some speculation. WWE has backed a lawsuit made by it’s road doctor Chris Amman against AJ’s husband, CM Punk. Punk claimed that he had a staph infection for months left untreated by WWE doctors who continued to give him Z-Packs, an antibiotic that did nothing.

While Punk never sued WWE over this, he simply said it on the now infamous Colt Cabana Podcast, Art of Wrestling .

Amman sued Punk for defamation, despite the fact that Punk has a clear scar from the staph and most likely has medical forms proving he had it. So now AJ Lee is in WWE and put into a weird position. While she has had a good relationship with the McMahon Family, Punk has not had such luck. AJ is an employee that has been treated well despite her relationship with Punk.

However, many speculate that real life drama was playing out online and WWE is trying to take advantage of this hot button issue and use it for storyline purposes. It is a smart move if WWE actually uses it to improve an entire division. However, if it is only to set up a rivalry with AJ and Stephanie, where can a division go from there?
