‘Pretty Little Liars’ Finale: The Big A
Fans of Pretty Little Liars have been following the mostly-female ensemble cast for five years now in the hopes that the identity of A will eventually be revealed. The finale of each season of Pretty Little Liars has brought with it a big reveal: the identity of A. As the show has endured and even gained in popularity, PLL viewers have come to learn that, while some of the game players have been exposed (Remember Mona, Toby, Spencer, Ezra, and Alison, just to name a few), the real A, the Big A, has yet to be revealed.
Pretty Little Liars executive producer and showrunner, I. Marlene King, promises that all of that will change with the finale for Season 5, “Welcome to the Dollhouse.” King promises that, while the Liars may still be in the dark, viewers will know who A is by the close of this season’s finale. Also revealed, reports Latin Times, is the fact that the Big A is only one person, and that this one person stole the A game from Mona.
Pretty Little Liars will seemingly close this season with even bigger questions than the mere identity of Big A, Ms. King promised to her Twitter followers. While viewers may learn the identity of A with and without that classic hoodie, PLL fans will be left with more questions than answers. The biggest question will remain unanswered, at least for the time being: Why? The Pretty Little Liars exec was reported as saying the the motive for Big A’s behavior will not be revealed until PLL‘s sixth season, according to Design & Trend.
“I believe wholeheartedly that u will love the finale. It is the MOST IMPORTANT EPISODE OF PLL, [sic]” Ms. King tweeted.
Perhaps the biggest clue as to the identity of Big A came with the hint that he or she was present in the Pretty Little Liars pilot episode. The clue was further expanded upon, when it was revealed that Big A was also seen in the third season premiere. The article in Latin Times has done PLL fans a favor by listing those present in both of the mentioned episodes: Spencer, Emily, Aria, Hanna, Alison, Toby, Mona, Pam Fields, Ella Montgomery, Ashley Marin, Wren, and Ezra. A fairly long list, particularly without knowledge of the motive, but Pretty Little Liar fans love to speculate and this list gives quite a bit to ponder.
I. Marlene King has also said that, as the clues are revealed up to the finale and into Season 6, PLL fans will finally begin to wrap their heads around what the show is really about, hinting that Big A has some deeper goal than just the torment of Hannah, Emily, Spencer, and Aria. Don’t expect everything to be handed to you, warns the executive producer. Pretty Little Liars has always been a mystery/thriller at its core, and a certain level of suspense is best for the show and for PLL fans alike.
Pretty Little Liars will air its fifth season finale on March 24, but there are still three more episodes of PLL to go before “Welcome to the Dollhouse.”
Fans are hoping for a reunion for Emily and Paige in Season 6, as well. See what Pretty Little Liars executive producer Joseph Dougherty thinks about the Paily romance.
