Christina Aguilera Does Dead On Britney Spears And Cher Impersonations
Hot on the heels of Christina Aguilera’s return to The Voice, the pop diva stopped by to chat with Jimmy Fallon about her triumphant return as a coach for Season 8. Naturally Aguilera had to sing while she was on The Tonight Show, and host Fallon had the perfect vehicle to showcase another side of Aguilera’s talent in a game of “Wheel of Musical Impressions.” Christina does a very respectable Shakira impersonation, but her Cher and Britney Spears impersonations brought down the house.
First Christina spun the wheel and landed on Cher, but had to do Cher singing the Folger’s commercial. Fans of Fallon know he is good at singing impersonations, but imagining Christina Aguilera doing Cher singing coffee jingles was a bit of a stretch. But after focusing a bit, the “Dirrty” diva pulled it off, impressing the audience and making Fallon giggle with delight.
Then after Jimmy Fallon took his turn, imitating David Bowie singing “Grand Old Flag,” the game really got interesting. Aguilera landed on “Britney Spears” and “This Little Piggy.” The band did a very “Hit Me Baby One More Time” rendition of the little piggy song, and Aguilera did a dead-on impersonation of Britney Spears that left Fallon gushing with praise.
“That was something I’ve always wanted to do, that was amazing! I love that so much, that was fantastic!”
One could argue she did a better rendition of Britney than Britney does. And without autotune.
Those impersonation skills may come in handy when Christina Aguilera makes a guest appearance on Nashville, playing a pop star who yearns to make a country album. The singer will have to channel a whole new style to make viewers believe she’s a country singer.
Could her fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton be rubbing off on her? No comment from Aguilera on that, but she told The Hollywood Reporter she may use her time on Nashville to try to position herself to win over more country artists to her team for The Voice.
“Move over Blake, you may not be able to play that ‘country card’ for long.”
Aguilera said she leaves to start shooting for Nashville next week, while the pre-taped blind auditions are running on NBC before the live shows. Plus Aguilera has a young son and a new six month old daughter to juggle with her schedule, but she doesn’t seem too fazed with all the challenges.
“I am excited to try something different, as I do think in life, and in music, experience just adds to the creative process.”
