Bobbi Kristina Brown Coma Explained: Drugs And Abuse Alleged As Nick Gordon Battles Bobby Brown [Video]
On Jan. 31, Bobbi Kristina Brown was rushed to a hospital after Nick Gordon and a friend found her lying unconscious in a bathtub in her home. Now, as the days turn into weeks, the 21-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown has not responded as she relies on life support measures to keep her breathing. But is it possible for her to be removed from the medically induced coma and machines and recover completely?
It is impossible for Bobbi Kristina to recover fully, Dr. Rachael Ross of The Doctors told The Wrap. A family medicine physician, she believes that Brown has now gotten to the point where the family usually must face discussions of turning off the life support.
And although the possibility remains that she could survive coming out of that coma, Dr. Ross feels that the odds are against her full recovery.
“It really sounds like a complete recovery would be almost impossible,” said The Doctors co-host. “Just based off my own personal experience and my own clinical experience, it really sounds bad.”
As to why she was put into that medically induced coma, Dr. Ross explained that it can help the brain to recover. Then, if and when Bobbi Kristina does become conscious, family and physicians will discover whether her neurological function has been restored.
“If the brain is doing no work — it doesn’t have to metabolize anything, it doesn’t have to think — then what we can do is, we can prevent [her brain] from swelling any further, and we can potentially buy her some time and let it heal up,” clarified the physician.
But at this point, Dr. Ross feels the time period for recovery has passed.
“Generally speaking, if someone stays in a coma longer than anywhere from two to four weeks, that’s a bad sign. We consider that a decline where we as physicians are talking to the family about withdrawing support.”
However, as the Inquisitr reported, Bobby Brown refuses to stop praying and hoping for Bobbi Kristina’s recovery. And although the relatives have discussed options, because Bobbi Kristina is the daughter of Bobby and Whitney Houston, it is Bobby’s legal decision that will ultimately determine whether and when he does remove the 21-year-old from life support.
But Dr. Ross views that hope as a typical scenario.
“What happens, as you can imagine, this is your loved one, and you maintain hope,” she reflected. “You keep thinking that a miracle could possibly happen. So a lot of times it’s really hard to get the family to turn off and withdraw support.”
Yet the physician admitted that hope still has its place.
“Miracles do happen every day.”
As to the reason for Bobbi Kristina’s coma, a source told People that she was using heroin the morning that she was found in the bathtub.
Additional sources confirmed that in addition to the regular use of heroin, Bobbi Kristina took cocaine and Xanas, and also drank heavily. And although she had gone to rehab, her depression from missing her mother continued to darken her life.
“How thin she had gotten is an indicator,” added a source. “This girl was trying hard, but she didn’t have any support system. She was still dealing with a lot of grief over her mother.”
Bobbi Kristina’s life as a child also involved drugs. Whitney Houston’s autopsy indicated that she had been taking cocaine, prior to her death. In addition, her father Bobby Brown talked openly about using both heroin and cocaine, admitting that he had seen the havoc wrought by his drug use on his reality show, Being Bobby Brown.

However, while those sources allege that Bobbi Kristina’s use of drugs may be linked to her current health crisis, others point to her boyfriend Nick Gordon, who allegedly abused her, as the Inquisitr reported.
Once a 12-year-old boy abandoned by his mother, and then rescued by Whitney Houston, Gordon was raised with Bobbi Kristina as if the two were brother and sister. But then, after Whitney’s death, the grief-stricken young teen seemed to find comfort in her unofficial brother. However, when the two announced that they were engaged, family turmoil followed.
Now Nick has been banned from Bobbi Kristina’s hospital room, according to CNN. Gordon tweeted his views.
“Let me in the hospital to see my girl and let her hear my voice,” he posted. “If she hears my voice, let me massage her, play her favorite music I believe it will help.”
But Brown responded through his lawyers.
“Let me be very clear, Mr. Gordon was offered an opportunity to potentially visit Bobbi Kristina and he declined to meet the terms of any possible visit,” he said in his statement.
