Kanye West ‘Keeps Forgetting’ To Apologize To Beck
Kanye West caused a stir at the Grammys two weeks ago when he stormed the stage after Beck won Album of the Year. It was reminiscent of the MTV Video Music Awards a couple of years ago when West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to say, in effect, that Beyoncé should have won. Although this time West stopped short of saying anything — although Beck had also just beat Beyoncé in the category — his actions caused a firestorm. Shirley Manson of Garbage called Kanye “spoilt.”
Now, it turns out, West was clueless about Beck’s album, because he hadn’t even given it a listen. He heard it for the first time over dinner last week with, of all people, Taylor Swift. And he liked it. In a new interview with Power 105.1, West dished on his reaction to hearing the music that beat out his prized Beyoncé for the award.
“I went to dinner, sat down with Taylor Swift right, and ironically they were like, playing the Beck album. Maybe they did it on purpose so I could finally hear it, but I was like, ‘Man, this is kinda good, I’m not even gonna lie!'”
In the interview West also revealed he’s been meaning to offer Beck an apology, but he hasn’t gotten around to it. According to Kanye’s logic, his controversial actions benefitted Beck because without his intervention, the press wouldn’t even have mentioned the album of the year win.
“I got [Beck’s] number and I was supposed to call but I just keep forgetting. Think about all the good stuff that happened to me the past seven to eight days. The person that won the most was Beck, because if I hadn’t done that, his Album of the Year would never be mentioned. Now it’s in all the chatter. ‘Kanye West messes up again.’ I’m already the enemy, so you can’t get no worse than the villain.”
Beck, for his part, was gracious immediately after the awards ceremony.
“You can’t please everybody, man. I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
In the Power 105.1 interview, West also denied that Beyoncé and his wife Kim Kardashian do not get along, insisting that Beyoncé has pictures of Kim on the walls when she’s recording, because the reality star “represents powerful women.” He also explained why he goes to such great lengths to support Beyoncé at award shows.
“I think Beyoncé is a great representation of an artist working hard and trying her best and getting the results from it.”
