Vladimir Putin: No One Can Gain Military Superiority Over Russia
Vladimir Putin declared that the Russian military has no match. The strong language is the latest ominous sign that the ceasefire signed in Minsk last week will not hold.
NBC News reports Putin was quoted from an address he plans to give on the Defenders’ of the Fatherland Day holiday.
“No one should have the illusion that they can gain military superiority over Russia, put any kind of pressure on it. We will always have an adequate answer for any such adventures.”
According to the BBC, he added, “our soldiers and officers have proven that they are ready to act decisively smoothly, professionally and courageously, to perform the most difficult non-standard tasks, as befits a modern hardened combat-ready army that protects their traditions and military duty.”
For at least one former super-power, Putin’s boasting holds true.
The Telegraph reports that senior military officers in Britain concede the Russian military would win a shooting war with the U.K. A gloomy outlook considering Britain has regularly had to intercept Russian aircraft approaching its shores.
After the Royal Air Force (RAF) had to intercept two Russian bombers off the coast of Cornwall, Prime Minister David Cameron said, “I don’t think we should dignify it with too much of a response.”
The former head of the RAF, Sir Michael Graydon, took the encounter a little more seriously.
“I very much doubt whether the UK could sustain a shooting war against Russia. We are at half the capabilities we had previously. They fly in these regions to check our air defenses and have probably worked out we are not as sharp as we were.”
Air Commodore Andrew Lambert was also worried. He explained that if Russia got serious, British air forces would be overwhelmed, largely because of cuts made by politicians.
“The modern generation of politicians has grown up in absolute security – they’ve never felt a threat to their existence, safety or security. They’ve taken peace for granted and decimated the Armed Forces. Let’s hope we don’t pay the price.”
To add to the bad news, the Ukraine claims new batches of military equipment have been crossing the Russian border into Ukraine. A Ukraine spokesman estimated another 20 Russian tanks and 10 missile systems have entered the country.
It looks like Vladimir Putin may not have been entirely sincere when declaring a ceasefire between the two forces. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, along with German Chancellor Merkel and French President Hollande, signed a ceasefire agreement after a 17-hour marathon negotiation session.
The ceasefire affirmed that Ukraine was to recover its entire border with Russia from the separatists, but new supplies from the Russian military make the recovery more difficult.
Did Putin put that much effort into an agreement the separatists just meant to break? Since he considers his military unmatched in the world today, he may have just wanted time to build-up for a new push.
