‘Days Of Our Lives’ Star Sentenced: Freddie Smith Learns Fate After Pleading Guilty In Ohio Accident

Days of Our Lives star Freddie Smith has now been sentenced in the accident that took place in Ohio last October. Smith was driving the car that night and his girlfriend Alyssa Tabit was left injured. While Smith’s sentence could have been severe, potentially affecting his future with the show, it looks like he’s getting a bit of a break.

Soap Opera Digest shares that in December, Freddie Smith pleaded guilty to a first-degree misdemeanor of operating a vehicle while under the influence as well as a fourth-degree felony charge of vehicular assault. This week, Smith was in an Ohio courtroom to learn his sentence.

It has been reported that Smith could have been sentenced to 24 months in prison for the charges stemming from the October car accident. Instead, Freddie will face DUI school and community service.

Reporter Scott Taylor of 19 Action News was in the courtroom and tweeted that Smith remarked, “This is more than a life lesson. I am grateful AlyssaTabit & I are alive.”

According to 19 Action News, Freddie and Alyssa had been at a wedding reception the night of the accident. They report that his blood alcohol level was.093. Tabit received some serious injuries and it is said that her recovery continues.

Specifics regarding Alyssa’s injuries have never been revealed in any great detail, though it is known that she faced surgery and was in critical condition right after the crash. Freddie and Alyssa are still together, as she has shared photos via Instagram of their Christmas and Valentine’s Day holidays together.

KPHO notes that the prosecutors recommended that Smith’s driver’s license be suspended and that he get two years of community service. The judge agreed with the recommendation. Smith was also sentenced to three days in jail. However, that is suspended as long as Freddie completes his DUI school requirement in Ohio. Should the actor violate any laws, he faces a 12-month sentence in jail.

As DOOL fans know, Smith is in the midst of some very heavy storylines on the show. Freddie has been in the role of Sonny Kiriakis since 2011 and has been part of the much-loved “WilSon” couple with Guy Wilson, who plays Will Horton, for some time now. The relationship is in rough shape right now and fans are anxious to see what comes next for Sonny and Will.

Days of Our Lives fans were very worried about Freddie Smith and Alyssa Tabit when news of the accident broke last fall. The actor definitely still has the support of his DOOL fans and everybody hopes that Alyssa will continue to make great strides in her recovery.
