‘Wolverine’ Sequel News: The Next Solo Film Could Costar A Familiar Face, And Take Place When?
Wolverine sequel news isn’t something we hear much about. Some fans even wish the X-Men franchise would stop putting Hugh Jackman’s berzerker in every movie, but it sounds like there will be at least one more before the Australian-raised star hangs up the claws for good.
The latest tidbit revolves around a comic book story arc that Jackman and director James Mangold have been looking at. It was revealed in an interview that the film will not take place anywhere in a time period we’ve already seen, although there was one hint.
Sir Patrick Stewart may be costarring with Jackman for the next solo film. This obviously means that the reboot cast won’t be involved, since the films have already hit on a form of time travel in Days of Future Past, and Stewart can only play the older Professor Xavier.
If the latest Wolverine sequel news had rumored James McAvoy instead, we would know that the Wolverine 3 (as they’re currently calling it) time period would be predating the recruitment of Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm.
Could this mean that the iconic mutants portrayed by James Marsden, Famke Janssen, and Halle Berry will have cameos? It might, but not much is known, even what comic book story arc might be covered in the Wolverine 3 story.
Jackman revealed in the interview that it will center on a known comic book plotline spanning several issues.
“It does draw on some comic book stuff. There are some things. But in typical fashion, instead of… [there will be] one main one, with a few bits here and there, and then opening it up, you know?”
One possibility is a return of the Hellfire Club in “Alone,” a story arc where Wolverine has to infiltrate the club and save the other mutants, possibly with Professor Xavier’s help.

In the same interview, Hugh Jackman refused to deny that Sir Patrick Stewart would be in the film, leading to further speculation about the Wolverine sequel news. He admitted it would be nice to work with him again and hinted at the berzerker’s relationship with the Professor.
“That relationship is key, it’s one of the keys. It was the key in the beginning and I think there’s a long way to go, you know?”
Considering the jump in time between X-Men: The Last Stand and the futuristic parts of Days of Future Past, that could be the era being mentioned. Until further details are revealed and confirmed, the Wolverine sequel has a lot yet to reveal.
What do you think will be the plot of Wolverine 3?
