‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Footage To Be Shown At Celebration Event In April?
For many fans, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a movie that can’t come soon enough. The teaser managed to show just enough footage to pique interest without ruining any specific moments from the movie — a rare feat in many trailers today.
Although The Force Awakens is nearly a year away from its release, anticipation is still at an all time high, and fans are looking for any scraps of information they can find. From story rumors to leaked concept art and behind-the-scenes photos, almost anything’s fair game for Star Wars these days, but until we get an official confirmation of sorts, a lot of it gets dismissed as rumors or fabrication. But come April, we may be able to get something more than rumors during the upcoming Star Wars Celebration, according to StarWars.com.
“StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that the director of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ — who once attended ‘Star Wars’ Celebration as a fan — is confirmed to appear at ‘Star Wars’ Celebration Anaheim this April. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will kick off the show in a big way on Thursday morning, April 16, at 10:00 a.m. This will be a day long remembered.”
The details are indeed vague, but in true fan fashion, that hasn’t stopped people from speculating as to the potential content of this event. One of Cinema Blend’s theories is that footage of some sort will premiere at this event, though they are careful to point out that by this time, a second trailer would likely either be on the way or already online.
Among their many theories, such as special guests, or directed Q&A’s, this one seems like the most promising — and perhaps the best way to convert any existing skeptics. While some may consider this to be an unnecessary step, given that San Diego Comic Con would be right around the corner, Screen Rant states that since Star Wars Celebration is essentially the Comic Con of Star Wars — not showing footage there would be quite the wasted opportunity.
J.J. Abrams is no novice to fandom and given his experience with franchises like Star Trek, there’s no doubt he knows the type of stuff that fans like to see, especially with him being a Star Wars fan himself.
