Bill Cosby’s Canceled Boston Shows Will Not Be Rescheduled
There are no plans to reschedule Bill Cosby’s canceled Boston shows. Promoter Bill Blumenreich says he does not intend to bring the controversial comedian back to the Wilbur Theatre.
Despite the comedian’s claim of having to cancel the Boston shows due to bad weather and not because of the latest Cosby accuser coming forward, Blumenreich tells the Boston Globe Sunday’s canceled shows will not be rescheduled and said ticketholders will receive refunds. The promoter maintains he has offered refunds to anyone calling or emailing since the allegations against Cosby have been brought forward.
Ahead of his Boston shows, Bill Cosby canceled due to an impending snowstorm that was predicted to dump two feet of on the area, citing travel concerns.
“I have decided to cancel for your travel safety. No need to worry, I will be back soon to raise the roof with laughter.”
Some, however, question the timing of Cosby’s calling off the shows at Wilbur Theatre. On the same day he issued the statement, another accuser came forward to allege the comedian made unwanted sexual advances towards her when she worked on the set of The Cosby Show in 1988. Helen Gumpel says she was brought to Cosby’s dressing room for what she thought was another audition, but the latest accuser maintains it was all a ploy. Once Gumpel was in the room, she says, Cosby gave her a drink and told her to sit on the couch. She alleges the comedian then stood in front of her with his crotch in her face. The former fashion model says her career suffered as a result of rejecting the comedian.
“I never thought of myself as a victim because I refused his advances, but my career was a victim.”
No matter what Cosby’s reasons were for canceling the Boston shows, promoter and theatre owner Bill Blumenreich is breathing a sigh of relief. The promoter told the Boston Herald on Friday he wanted to cancel the shows from the beginning, but could not because of a contract he made with the comedian before the allegations started springing up.
“I’m stuck in the middle of this. I tried to cancel all the shows, but I had a contract with the guy and, for these two shows, he’s holding me to the contract. I can’t wait for Sunday to be over. I’m done with it.”
Bill Cosby has yet to comment on the latest allegations being made against him.
