WWE News: John Cena Eye Injury, Will It Ruin His ‘Fast Lane’ Match With Rusev?
Last night on Monday Night Raw, John Cena came out to address Rusev and Lana in the ring. The WWE’s greatest champion arrived in Columbus, Ohio, with a bit of a different look than usual. According to Cageside Seats, John Cena’s right eye is bad enough that the WWE used it in the storyline with Rusev. It was originally injured at a WWE house show. After the Bulgarian Brute and Cena started to shove each other, Rusev poked Cena’s eye.
He continued to sell the injury, but it looks like Cena wasn’t trying very hard to sell the eye injury. This could come as a scare, because the two are supposed to do battle at WWE Fast Lane. A recent report on the Inquisitr says that Cena might win the United States championship and bring prestige back to the belt.
If he cannot get better soon, then plans will change. Vince McMahon and Triple H already changed plans to WrestleMania 31, and that involved the main event. Rusev and Cena might see different aspects to it as the weeks go by. There will more than likely be a WrestleMania 31 rematch too, but it might not be a traditional one-on-one match. Justin LaBar, WrestleZone.com columnist, tweeted out two possibilities that could enhance the feud between Rusev and Cena.
I still think Cena teams with Hogan for tag against Rusev and either Big Show or Sheamus at WM 31 #wwe #raw

If not Cena/Hogan then Cena/Rock vs Rusev & partner is WM 31 material. Cena & Rusev won’t have match in Feb rematch at Mania #WWE#RAW

While the thought of Hulk Hogan wrestling again is farfetched, he is training everyday for a return to the WWE ring. Many fans of old will love the fact that their American hero will lace up his boots once again. Also, Cena and Hogan never wrestled each other, or teamed up together in the WWE. At first, Hogan wanted to wrestle Stone Cold Steve Austin, but that will definitely not happen.
The other name that LaBar mentioned was the Rock. Rock might be too busy to appear at WrestleMania 31, especially train for a huge tag-team match at the big event. He’s doing a lot of projects in Hollywood, which will stymie any return to the ring. To properly build Rusev, maybe it’s better to have him beat Cena and continue his undefeated streak.
If Cena does let Rusev go over at WrestleMania 31, the heat that he will receive is unimaginable. He already has the backing of WWE management to continue with the United States championship. On top of that, Cena is the perfect man to build Rusev to the top of WWE’s heel group.
