Robert Mugabe Fall-Out: Guard Suspensions, Air Zimbabwe Probe
What started as a perfectly natural trip and fall down has turned into one huge worldwide joke, as photos of Robert Mugabe did the rounds, turning into incredibly funny memes.
It seems the President of Zimbabwe has no sense of humor, however, as he has now officially suspended 27 security guards. The airline used to fly back home, Air Zimbabwe, is also under a probe.
Times Live reports that, due to the huge controversy over the fact that an elderly man fell down, Mugabe has now ensured that 27 members of the President’s security and advance team were handed suspension letters on Friday.

According to officials, an investigation began on the fated night that Robert Mugabe fell while addressing supporters on his return from the African Union summit in Addis Adaba. Initially, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba dismissed reports of a shake-up with the Presidential security team.
“There is only one hand that shakes up and that hand has not shaken up [anything].”
There are other investigations on the go, however, as another official said that Mugabe’s fall was a serious issue that had to be dealt with properly.
“There are many departments that are being investigated, from Air Zimbabwe, the advance team and the security. I doubt if some of them will come back. The issue here is simple. The security team was caught napping.”
All Africa says these investigations are a little surprising when viewed in the light of an earlier statement by Information Minister Jonathan Moyo where he had denied there was even a fall to begin with. Moyo said that it was a minor trip that Mugabe broke himself without any assistance and that there was insufficient evidence that Mugabe ever actually fell.

While Mugabe attempted to halt the release of photos of his fall, the photos did indeed hit the media almost immediately. This was followed by Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party trying their best to support their president by releasing a series of hilarious tweeted images with the President Photoshopped into several different situations.
Little did the comrades at Zanu-PF and President Robert Mugabe know that these images would be added to by various ingenious people, going completely viral on social media. In the meantime, the jokes and memes are still doing the rounds on Twitter.
