Keanu Reeves Adds ‘Neon Demon’ To His Growing List Of Upcoming Roles
Keanu Reeves seems to be enjoying a bit of a resurgence in Hollywood with his box office success in John Wick, which has committed to a sequel already. Now the star of films ranging from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure to The Matrix trilogy has signed on to be in The Neon Demon, according to Cinema Blend.
Keanu Reeves will be joining a cast that already includes Christina Hendricks, Elle Fanning, and Jena Malone, with Nicolas Winding Refn manning the director’s chair. IMDb lists the plot as “an aspiring model finds herself in a terrifying predicament with her survival hanging in the balance.” However, What Culture is reporting a source has divulged to them that the film is based on the extremes some supermodels resort to when trying to make it in the modeling world while retaining their youth.
We’re talking voodoo, cannibalism, and possibly a nod to Elizabeth Bathory, who notoriously bathed in virgin’s blood as her fountain of youth.
Horror movies with devilish themes and selling one’s soul are nothing new to Reeves, who previously starred in Devil’s Advocate and Constantine for the big screen. So far, the production is mum on what role Keanu will play in Neon Demon, or how big of a role he has in the grand scheme of the film.
Keanu Reeves also had his latest completed film debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January. He stars in Eli Roth’s Knock Knock as a happily married man whose world is torn apart by two femme fatales who land on his doorstep while he’s home alone. The film also stars Mrs. Eli Roth, Lorenza Izzo, and Colleen Camp, who was in the original 1977 film the movie is based on, Death Game.
And, of course, Reeves is enjoying the success of John Wick at the box office, and the film seems to be headed for its own franchise with the sequel in pre-production, which was verified by Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer, according to Variety.
This shouldn’t be surprising given the film, featuring Keanu in another action-packed role like The Matrix, earned $43 million in the U.S. and $35 million in international markets since its October release, with more revenue coming from DVD sales that just launched this month.
So it seems Keanu Reeves will be a busy man for several years to come. What’s your favorite Keanu reeves movie or character so far?
