Sports Illustrated Cover 2015: Did The Swimsuit Issue Go Too Low?

Sports Illustrated recently revealed its 2015 swimsuit issue on Wednesday. Hannah Davis graces this year’s cover. This is Davis’ third time on the cover. It’s hard not to miss Davis’ beautiful face on the Sports Illustrated cover. But it’s also hard not to notice how low her bikini bottoms are.

Risqué poses are kind of expected in Sports Illustrated. But this particular cover features Hannah, 24, seductively pulling down her bikini bottoms. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover was met with some heavy criticism on social media. Some took to Facebook, Twitter, and other sites to exclaim their shock over Hannah’s cover. Readers called the Sports Illustrated cover indecent and softcore porn.

Sports Illustrated’s Facebook page has lots of comments about Davis’ cover. One reader mentions that while Davis is beautiful, the cover is “borderline pornography,” according to Fox4kc.com. Many people on Twitter called the Sports Illustrated cover sleazy, though there were some readers that were eager to buy the issue.

Even the media isn’t too pleased with Hannah’s sexy Sports Illustrated cover. People magazine senior writer Lynette shared her thoughts about the cover on Twitter.

“Will we all be desensitized when SI debuts a swimsuit issue with a bottomless model? Seems like we’re gettin there.”

Bustle contributor Amy Sciarreto also asked her readers if they believe Sports Illustrated went “too far” with the cover.

“I can’t decide if I think it’s vulgar. She is pulling at her bottoms and her lower lady parts are barely covered up. There’s no question about whether or not she gets a Brazilian wax, which means that very little is left to the imagination. Davis is inarguably a babe. I’ve often said that sheer sexiness is about what you can’t see, not about what you can see. In this case, you can almost see too much.”

Several news sites have conducted a poll on Hannah’s Sports Illustrated cover. Some have asked if the cover is “too suggestive” or “too sexy” to feature on newsstands. A resounding 78 percent of Us Weekly readers believe that the Sports Illustrated cover is too sexy. A similar poll on Fox4kc.com also showed that 61 percent of viewers believe that the cover is too hot to handle.

The 2015 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue was taken by celebrity photographer Ben Watts, brother of Naomi Watts at the Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, according to a report on the Inquisitr. Davis is a fashion model who’s been featured in several high-profile fashion campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Victoria’s Secret, and Tommy Hilfiger. She’s also a native of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Davis is currently dating baseball player Derek Jeter. The couple have been together since 2012 and are rumored to be engaged.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue goes hits newsstands on February 9. What are your thoughts on the cover? Do you think it’s too much? Do you plan to buy it?
