6-Year-Old Girl Used As ‘Deposit’ At Chinese Spa: Grandfather Went To Get Wallet, Never Returned

A 6-year-old girl was used as a deposit at a Chinese bathhouse after her grandfather forgot his wallet and couldn’t pay for services. The grandfather told staff he would leave his granddaughter as a “deposit” until he could return with the wallet. Over a month has passed and the man still has not returned to collect the child.

According to the Daily Mail, the little girl, Siyao, was left in the bathhouse, or spa, after her grandfather took a bath at the facility and received a massage. Bathhouses are used in China by individual’s who do not have running water or heat in their own home. Patrons come to the bathhouse to get clean, relax, or enjoy a massage. Siyao was with her grandfather when he received the services, but could not pay. The man claims he left his wallet and would leave the girl as a “deposit” until he could return. However, the man never returned, and now Siyao lives at the spa.

“He told the reception that would leave his granddaughter Siyao, behind as proof that he intended to return, and then left.”

The New York Post says that it didn’t take long for the staff at the spa to realize what the cruel grandfather had done to the poor girl.

“As the hours passed, there was no sign of the man. Pretty soon, the staff realized the cruel grandfather had chosen to leave Siyao behind rather than coughing up the cash.”

The staff at the spa say they are trying to get child services in the area involved, but so far have had no luck. The girl is living in the bathhouse with staff providing her with food, clothes, and necessities. However, at night, the little girl is left alone in the bathhouse with nothing more than a television set to keep her company.

“When the centre is closed they leave a TV switched on so she doesn’t feel lonely or scared. Staff also bring in food to help feed the six-year-old and have provided her with changes in clothing. She uses the facilities at the bath house to wash and keep herself clean.”

With social welfare not getting involved in the case, the spa has resorted to local media in an attempts to reach out to the grandfather. However, the grandfather has not responded to any of the appeals, and Siyao is still living in the bathhouse. Until something can be done with the little girl, the staff says they will try to make her as comfortable as possible.
