Poltergeist is still seen as one of the scariest movies in the history of cinema, and it likely always will be. Fans have hoped that the remake of the iconic horror film will do it full justice and not tarnish a legacy that is filled with history, legend, and curses. Well, the first trailer for the Poltergeist remake has been released and some stress may be gone.
The trailer for the remake of the 1982 scary above all scary movies is looking like it is really going to make a lot of people happy. As Collider states, the first trailer is “pretty solid,” and that’s saying a lot for a PG-13 horror flick.
Director Gil Kenan states that he wants the contemporary version of the film to be done right.
“Whenever someone approaches material that’s so beloved, there’s a reflexive reaction to be worried,” Kenan said. “It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We’re working to make a ‘Poltergeist’ film that lives up to the original’s legacy.”
Kenan and producer Sam Raimi have always planned to duplicate certain aspects of Tobe Hooper’s original, which was written by Steven Spielberg. It’s going to be hard to replicate the success that had a fantastic cast, including Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, and the late Heather O’Rourke.
As the trailer for the Poltergeist remake shows, Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt look to really do well in the role of the parents of an 8-year-old daughter played by Kennedi Clements, per Den of Geek .
It’s obvious from the trailer that an R-rating wasn’t needed because all of the gore and blood isn’t necessarily needed to make the movie scary. All you have to do is watch the post-title sequence and you’ll understand.
Or better yet, know that the Poltergeist clown makes his return in the remake and this scene is also… here
For those not aware or that haven’t seen the original, the Bowen family is living the American dream of moving into a brand new home. Little do they know that their home may already be occupied by someone that is not of this world, and they don’t want the Bowens in their home.
Here’s hoping the swimming pool scene from the original gets the remake treatment.
The remake of Poltergeist stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kennedi Clements, Jared Harris, and more. It is set to hit theaters on July 24 in 3D, and if the trailer is any indication of how scary it will be… you really don’t want to go alone.
