President Obama will be hosting a private screening of “Red Tails” tonight at the White House for the Tuskagee Airmen.
USA Today reports that the Tuskagee Airmen, as well as members of the cast and crew of the movie, will join the President and First Lady Michele Obama tonight to watch George Lucas’ movie about the legendary African-American fighter pilots during World War II.
“Red Tails”stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard and will be released on January 20th. George Lucas, who produced the film, said that he had a hard time finding backing for the movie due to its large African-American cast. Lucas said:
“They don’t believe there’s any foreign market for it and that’s 60 percent of their profit…I showed it to all of them and they said ‘No. We don’t know how to market a movie like thi s.’”
The Washington Post reports that Lucas put up $58 million of his own money to make sure that the movie got made.
