Dakota Johnson And Jamie Dornan Talk Uncomfortable Sex Scenes For ‘Fifty Shades’
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are hoping (or dreading) the fame that will come when Fifty Shades of Grey is released the day before Valentine’s Day, but they have been promoting the film and talking about all those uncomfortable sex scenes that everyone is looking forward to.
Just in time for the movie’s release, the pair has a new photoshoot out, and fans are getting super excited for the much awaited and talked about adaptation of the E.L. James erotic novel of the same name. Dakota and Jamie were anxious about doing those very uncomfortable sex scenes, who are anything but sexy, as Johnson explained to Glamour magazine for their March issue.
“The scenes in that room were definitely the most vulnerable scenes in the movie. But it was a very closed set — my mom (Melanie Griffith) told me that it’s my right to ask for that during intimate scenes, so it seemed like Jamie and (director) Sam (Taylor-Johnson) and I were in this little world together.”
For Jamie Dornan — who is married and new father of a young child — the scenes in the “Red Room” were some of the most uncomfortable he had to film with Johnson. Fans of the James novel know that that particular room is where the most graphic sex takes place.
“Some of the Red Room stuff was uncomfortable. There were times when Dakota was not wearing much, and I had to do stuff to her that I’d never choose to do to a woman.”
“It’s stressful enough to be tied to a bed naked in a scene,” Dakota Johnson said during the interview and praised Dornan for trying to keep her modesty. “But then they call cut, and you’re still tied to the bed, naked. Jamie would be the first one to throw a blanket over me.”
As a matter of fact, Jamie Dornan confessed that he felt “very protective” of Dakota Johnson and realized how difficult it must be for her to do those scenes. According to Taylor-Johnson on the days that those scenes were shot, the set was very quiet, but there was a lot of tension in the air.
Interestingly, Dornan revealed that, to prepare to play the role of billionaire Christian Grey, he visited a sex dungeon and watched a dominant-submissive session.
“The dominant was our sort of adviser on the job. He’d be on hand anytime there was a scene in the Red Room, to say, ‘You’re doing that wrong.’ So I watched him do his thing…It was quite jovial, a very different approach to how I saw Christian being in the Red Room. I think Christian takes it a bit more seriously.”
Dakota Johnson, however, did not get so up-close and personal in her preparation for the role of the innocent Anastasia Steele, but read a lot about BDSM, saying, “It’s about the ebb and flow of control between two people. To me, there’s something really honest in wanting to completely give up control for just a second.”
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan shared what turns them on about the opposite sex and, coincidentally, they have similar tastes. Both said that hands are the feature that they are most attracted about, not what Christian and Ana are into at all.
