Adoption Applications Pouring In For Rare Pit Bull-Dachshund Mix In Colquitt County, Georgia
He has a face only a mother could love, but Rami the Pit Bull-Dachshund mix has plenty of people eager to be his mom (or dad); so many people want to adopt the rare dog that the small animal shelter where he’s living is setting up a special application and interview process, WTSP (Tampa Bay) is reporting.
Whether it’s because he’s so cute, or so ugly, or so ugly he’s cute, the image of the rare dog has gone viral since first being posted on the Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society’s Facebook page on Tuesday.
“Hi! I’m Rami and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m a year old Dachshund/Pit bull mix. Yes, you’re reading that right, and, no, you haven’t gone crazy. I’m full of energy. I don’t like walking on a leash. I’m a sweetie pie, and love to run. I don’t listen very well, so you’ll need to take some time to train me. Because I tend to be a bit hyper, I might not be the best addition to a household with little kids. But I’m sure that all I need is a little lovin’. Will you take me home?”
As of this post, the original Facebook post of the weird-looking dog has received over 4,000 “Likes,” 7,000 Comments, and 31,000 “Shares.” Clearly, people can’t get enough of the “adorable” Pit Bull-Dachshund mix.
However, not everyone is impressed with the rather jarring appearance of a big dog head on top of a wee dog body. Some comments on the original Facebook post have used the words “Tyrannosaurus Rex,” “Alien,” and “freaky-looking.”
According to Designer Mixes, the combination of a Pit Bull with a Dachshund is technically called a Doxbull or a Pitwee (or Pitweenie), and they can grow to up to 25 pounds. Though the dog-breeding website describes them as intelligent, protective, cuddly dogs that would make good family pets, the Colquitt County Humane Society wants potential adoptive parents to know that this particular Doxbull, Rami, probably isn’t a good pet for a family with small children.
Since Rami’s story went viral, the Humane Society has asked potential adoptive parents to be aware that shelters across the country are full of animals, some as “unique” as Rami, that are looking for forever homes.
“Please remember there are lots of homeless animals in shelters unique as Rami. Visit your local shelter soon to see other sweet dogs and cats in need. Please remember to spay and neuter.”
Is Rami cute, ugly, or so ugly he’s cute? Sound off in the Comments below.
