Karina Smirnoff Addresses ‘DWTS’ Season 20 Status Rumors: What Did She Say?
Fans of Dancing With the Stars are anxious for news regarding the pro and celebrity cast for Season 20, airing this spring. It is believed that the celebrities and pairings will be announced in mid-February, which means that the DWTS spoiler and gossip buzz is in full swing right now. There are some big changes ahead this season, and rumors had been swirling that Karina Smirnoff was leaving for this upcoming season. Now, however, she says that this is not necessarily the case.
Karina Smirnoff took to her Instagram page after rumors started running rampant that she had said she would be leaving the show. There have been quotes floating around, supposedly from her, that seemingly indicated she was done with Dancing With the Stars. Apparently, however, something was misunderstood or taken out of context.
Smirnoff says the following.
“Tired of my words being misconstrued. If I have an announcement to make, I will make it personally. And I promise that it won’t be during a Q&A. So no, these assertions should definitely not be in quotes and are just an attempt for attention. This is in reference to the article that came out of Denver after one of the shows with @DancingProsLive”
Obviously the DWTS pro is quite irritated that it’s being said that she revealed that she was leaving the show. While she’s making it clear that she didn’t indicate that was the case, and that she will make sure any announcements come from her personally, she’s also not really making any declarations at this point about Season 20 one way or the other.
Season 20 is a big anniversary season for Dancing With the Stars, but it’s also one facing some big changes. Cheryl Burke has left the show entirely, while Derek Hough is sitting this one out. Sharna Burgess, Mark Ballas, and Val Chmerkovskiy have indicated that they plan to return, as does Tony Dovolani.
As PureDWTS notes, few pros have confirmed anything beyond that. Typically, many of the professional dancers don’t know much ahead of time, and they’re not supposed to confirm or deny much in terms of the new seasons. However, typically the slate is pretty well figured out prior to the cast announcement. It would seem very likely that Witney Carson, Emma Slater, and Peta Murgatroyd will return, but there don’t seem to be many likely locks beyond that.
Will some of the newer pros, like Allison Holker and Keo Motsepe, get another spin on the DWTS dance floor? Will there be some new pros in the mix of things again? Fans are anxious to find out, and the official news regarding Dancing With the Stars Season 20 will be coming soon.
