‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Scoop: What’s Next For Callie And Arizona?
Tonight, Grey’s Anatomy returns after its winter hiatus, and while fans are holding their breath wondering if Meredith and Derek will be separated forever, viewers are also wondering what’s in store for Callie and Arizona.
The last time we saw the estranged couple, Arizona was trying to forge ahead after their split, and Callie was trying to stand on her own two feet after declaring herself a free woman. While both struggled in different ways, it was Arizona that admitted that going forward was incredibly hard, and that she has lost her footing, professionally and personally.
While it’s heartbreaking to see Callie and Arizona go through a series of trials and errors together, it’s even rougher to watch the two by themselves. That said, fans desperately want to know if they will ever find their way back to each other. After all, they survived a car accident, a plane accident, and infidelity. Can they get over this hump?
According to Shonda Rhimes, “anything is possible,” but what does Arizona herself think about it? According to E!, who caught up with actress Jessica Capshaw, her answer isn’t going to rest easy with some fans.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know, so I can’t even say that I’m hiding a secret.”
Although she knows the fans aren’t happy with what has transpired between Callie and Arizona, the Grey’s Anatomy actress knows what her character needs, and this break, even if it’s permanent, is a better scenario.
“I hope that the episode just really showed that they needed [to break up]. They got to a place where they were so stuck and so broken that the only way to go was to be apart.”
Fans of MerDer can definitely relate and commiserate with the Calzona fans, because it looks like it’s going to be a bumpy ride with both couples. According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rhimes said of the two couples, “Here are two parallel relationships: Meredith and Derek’s relationship and Callie and Arizona’s relationship.”
“Meredith’s journey and Callie’s journey are two big journeys that we really want to look at this season as we’re telling these stories.”
Back in September, before everything went down between Callie and Arizona, the Grey’s Anatomy creator posed a lot of questions.
“Are the tragedies that they’ve both lived through, is that just reason enough anyway? Is it enough? I don’t know. It wasn’t enough for Owen and Cristina. Maybe it’s enough for them, maybe it’s not. We’re interested in exploring that.”
Do you think the two couples will survive?
