Reptile Revealed For ‘Mortal Kombat X,’ New Trailer Released

The next character in the Mortal Kombat X lineup has been revealed. Reptile, one of the many ninjas to be introduced into the series, has been officially unveiled by Mortal Kombat through IGN.

In the trailer above, we see a lot of Reptile’s old moves making a comeback in the next iteration of Mortal Kombat. While he looks drastically different than that of the color-palette swapped ninja of games past, Reptile still retains some of what makes him unique among the Scorpions and Sub Zeroes of Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat X will introduce different fighting styles for each character, and while we don’t know exactly what Reptile’s will be, fans can rest assured knowing they will be pretty diverse. His moveset, even on display in the trailer, showcases a bevy of low and high attacks, mixed in with plenty of acid projectiles. In addition, it seems he will still be able to turn invisible, though to what end hasn’t been revealed.

Reptile isn’t the first character to be revealed this month. Kitana, Kung Lao, and Goro were all revealed to be returning to Mortal Kombat X, as reported previously by the Inquisitr. More characters are poised to be revealed this month as well, per a tweet from Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon.

Most of the characters being revealed for Mortal Kombat X have been traditional characters in the series. While NetherRealm Studios has stated they want to bring some fresh characters to the game, only four of the combatants have been new: Kotal Khan, Cassie Cage, D’Vorah, and Ferra & Torr, who are two characters but will be treated as a single combatant.

Cassie Cage represents the new direction in Mortal Kombat X most, as she is the descendant of two the of the series’ long-standing characters: Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. How those two play into the upcoming title remains to be seen. However, we know Cassie will handle like a combination of their movesets. It’ll be interesting to see how this is played into the game’s storyline as a new wave of combatants freshen up the roster of the fighting game.

Set 25 years after the events of Mortal Kombat 9, MKX will bring some of the series’ most prolific characters together in an all-new, original, non-linear story. Scorpion and Sub Zero are highlighted, but these stories will intertwine with the rest of Mortal Kombat‘s combatants, old and new. Already, questions surrounding the story have appeared, simply by the character reveals. How did Kung Lao survive Quan Chi at the end of Mortal Kombat 9? Which Sub Zero are we dealing with in the next game?

Mortal Kombat X releases on Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on April 14.
