Tyrese Gibson Campaigns For ‘Green Lantern’ Role — On Instagram
When actor Tyrese Gibson wants something, he is not afraid to say it. Tyrese posted no less than 14 fan images of himself dressed as the Green Lantern on Instagram. Apparently Gibson really wants to play the superhero in the forthcoming 2020 film.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the action movie star and R&B singer posted Green Lantern fan art to his Instagram account with messages about his commitment to the role. Between Tyrese’s usual inspirational messages and pictures of puppies, Gibson is using his Instagram account to get the word out that people want to see him take over the DC Comics superhero role.
Tyrese posted the photos with comments such as, “I am fully committed to suiting up for this adventure,” and “Rumor has it that.” Gibson also referred to rumors that Idris Elba is favored by fans for the role.

Gibson even pointed out how popular these posts have become. Tyrese feels that DC should listen to what the fans have to say.

Tyrese may have to wait a while before Warner Bros. focuses on the Green Lantern. The Green Lantern film is slated last on the Warner Bros. and DC Comics release schedule, as reported by the Inquisitr. Gibson’s character will not hit the big screens until 2020. According to Entertainment Weekly, the release date is “the better to put as much distance as possible between it and the poorly received 2011 film starring Ryan Reynolds.”
Other films in the DC Comics movie slate include Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. According to Comic Book Movie, the proposed Green Lantern may star not only in the standalone film, but in Justice League Part 1 and Part 2. Tyrese may need to campaign a bit harder since the release dates for those two movies are planned to be November 17, 2017 and June 14, 2019, respectively. That would mean three years of movies Gibson would need to commit to.
If Gibson were cast in the role, he would most likely play the John Stewart incarnation of the Green Lantern. Gibson would portray Stewart, an architect from Detroit who replaces Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan (Reynolds). Stewart plays an instrumental role in the creation of the Justice League, why Comic Book Movie speculates that 2020 may not be Gibson’s only goal.
