Justin Bieber has shared new music . The 20-year-old singer posted two, acoustic guitar-backed song snippets on Instagram early Wednesday (Jan. 28).
Each upload shows two identical pictures, but the track reveals are different.
“How do our lives become lighter?/ How do our eyes become brighter?/ You gotta believe in something higher,” the Biebs’ smooth-as-velvet voice croons on the first, while sounding something like a younger, John Mayer.
The mood changes from spiritual to lovesick on the second song snippet.
Justin sings, “When it’s raining, it’s pouring / How do I always end up the enemy? / How do I wake up in the morning and you’re not right next to me? / How did we throw it all away?”
It’s not clear whether the Canadian is teasing songs from his forthcoming duets album with Cody Simpson, or his upcoming solo album which is slated for later this year. On January 14, Justin posted a photo with the legendary, multi-genre super producer Rick Rubin , who founded Def Jam Records.
Shortly after, Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, regrammed the post alongside the caption, “Working on some history! @justinbieber via @shots – Rick and JB.”
It’s been reported the pair are working on the Biebs’ new album.
Meanwhile, some fans’ comments at the two, new music Instagrams and on Twitter, reveal some think the snippets relate to Justin’s former girlfriend, Selena Gomez .
Based on tweets posted below, some fans felt the need to defend the singer against some fans’ worries that his new album might cover the same ground as his 2013 Journals album — which was mostly a slow-jam, love letter to Gomez.

While the direction, content and concept (if there is one) of Justin’s new album remains to be seen and heard, it’s possible the two Instagram snippets are simply musical noodles he felt like sharing with fans.
Bieber and Gomez dated on and off from 2010 to September 2014, with many breakups and reunions. The starlet’s most recent single “The Heart Wants What It Wants” revealed her view that their romance caused her heartbreak and pain.
As for the oft-shirtless one, songs such as the two teases today, “Nothing Like Us” and most of Journals , show he also experienced love, loss, and regrets during the romance.
Justin’s surprise snippets come after his recent impromptu mini-concert at a Los Angeles venue, during which he performed the Simpson duet “Home To Mama.” From the sounds of the audience on video footage from that night, the crowd were more appreciative than some of his own fans.
